OHAKUNE MARDI GRAS 2022
SUSTAINABLE WASTE MANAGEMENT
New Zealand’s best mid-winter festival presented by Audiology returned to Ohakune in 2022 featuring a fantastic line-up of drum and bass artists such as crowd favourites Hot Dub Time Machine, Delta Heavy and Australian heavy hitter Luude, who undoubtedly has one of the biggest drum and bass hits at the present time with ‘Down Under’. In the shadow of Mt Ruapehu, over 8000 festival goers took to the Ohakune streets, in their vibrant outfits and costumes with good times to be had.
2022 was the fifth year that Closed Loop Site Services partnered with the Mardi Gras team to provide the cleaning and waste management services for the event. Closed Loop also provided a ‘Vendor Packaging Framework’ which helped to streamline the use of recyclable and compostable food packaging. This food packaging was then taken to MyNoke in Taupo. A local worm farm, that turns the packaging into compost.
Throughout the event the team hand sorted 33.15m3 of waste into 10 different waste streams to achieve a diversion rate of 81.9%

RECYCLING RATE: 81.9%
27.15 cubic meters recycled

WAIMARINO PONY CLUB
Closed Loop engaged a local community group to assist with the clean-up of Ohakune Mardi Gras - The Waimarino Pony Club. The group got to learn and experience what Closed Loop did on site to make Mardi Gras such a sustainable event. They saw firsthand, and helped keep their community and the environment at the base of Mount Ruapehu clean and beautiful.
