SUSTAINABLE WASTE MANAGEMENT
THE OTHER SIDE Festival in Whangamata took place over the 30th and 31st of December 2020. New Zealand’s second biggest New Year’s Eve festival with 15,000 people in attendance. There were 4500 on-site campers, and buses from the festival to townships as far away as Waihi, Whiritoa, Tairua, Pauanui and Onemana.
2020 marked the first year Closed Loop took over the Sustainability, Cleaning & Waste Management for the event. Throughout the two day event, 186.5m3 of waste was produced. The waste was hand sorted on site into 9 separate waste streams resulting in 114.5m of waste being diverted from landfill.
This led to The Other Side achieving a landfill diversion rate of 68.1%
RECYCLING RATE: 68.1%
115.5 cubic meters recycled
MAKING EVENTS MORE SUSTAINABLE

"We chose to work with Closed Loop because of their great track record in environmental solutions at festivals. We contacted Greg late in the piece and was extremely impressed with how quickly he was able to pull a team and plan together.
The team on the ground were amazing, especially the team leader who worked so hard in making sure everything was done right and not one piece of rubbish was left on the farm.
The whole team was happy to accomodate all types of different situations and requests from both myself and the farm owner throughout the job and the results were amazing.
I will definitely be locking Closed Loop in for our festival moving forward and will be recommending them to all of my festival organiser contacts."
